Washington/London : President-elect Barack Obama and UN chief Ban ki-moon led the global community condemnation of the Terror attacks in Mumbai and called on the nations of the world to work together to "root out and destroy terrorist networks".

At least 80 people, including Anti-Terrorism Squad chief Hemant Karkare, were killed when terrorists struck with impunity in Mumbai in coordinated multiple blasts and gunfire in a dozen areas across Mumbai.

"These coordinated attacks on innocent civilians demonstrate the grave and urgent threat of terrorism," Obama's Chief National security Spokesperson Brooke Anderson said in a statement.

"The United States must continue to strengthen our partnerships with India and nations around the world to root out and destroy terrorist networks," he said.

Mumbai under attack, 101 killed, 600 injured

Mumbai : Gunmen killed at least 101 people in a series of attacks in India's financial capital Mumbai and troops began moving into two five-star hotels on Thursday where Western hostages were being held, local television said.

Gunfire and explosions were heard at the landmark Taj Mahal hotel and thick plumes of smoke rose from the building, witnesses said. There were also explosions at the Oberoi hotel and firing at a hospital where gunmen were surrounded.

"The terrorists are throwing grenades at us from the rooftop of the Taj and trying to stop us from moving in," Ashok Patil, a police inspector said.

Police said at least 600 people were wounded in the attacks which also targeted a railway station and the Cafe Leopold, perhaps the most famous restaurant and hang-out for tourists in the city.

Delhi: 3 militants, Batla House caretaker arrested

: Three more suspected 'Indian Mujahideen' militants allegedly involved in the Delhi serial blasts and the caretaker of a house where some members of the Terror module were staying, have been arrested, police said.

A day after Delhi Police claimed to have identified 14 members of the module and arrested two of them, sleuths nabbed three others identified as Zia-ur-Rehman, Shakir Nishar and Shakil, who were on the run since the September 13 blasts.

Seven people are still at large and a hunt is on to catch them, a senior police officer said, adding the three arrests were made from a south Delhi locality.

Police had killed two terrorists, including Atif, the ‘main man’ of the Indian Mujahideen and alleged mastermind of recent serial blasts in several parts of the country, in a gunbattle in Jamia Nagar on Friday morning while two others were arrested the same day.

Delhi blasts: Investigations on right track, sketches being fine tuned: Delhi police

Delhi Police on Monday claimed that investigations into Saturday's serial Blasts were progressing in the right direction and sketches of suspected bombers that are being ‘fine tuned’ will be released soon.

"The investigations are progressing on the right track. But we cannot reveal all details as this will hamper the probe," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat told reporters in New Delhi.

He said police are expected to release the sketches of the suspected bombers soon as they are being fine tuned.

Terrorists scaring people with everyday objects?

It seems psychologists have a different way of interpreting the mindsets of terrorists - three days after the Blasts that rocked the national capital, they have come up with what appears to be a 'scaring' theory.

According to them, the use of tiffin boxes, bins and bicycles to plant bombs actually points to the terrorists' mindsets of scaring people with objects of everyday use.

"The tiffin box is used to carry food by everyone, be it a peon or a professor or a CEO of a company. When one sees images of bombs ripping apart these objects, a deep sense of fear sets in," psychologist Dr Aruna Broota said.

Five explosions rock Delhi, 20 dead, many injured

Five explosions rocked busy market places in New Delhi on Saturday evening, killing twenty people and injuring many others.

The Blasts at Ghaffar market in Karol Bagh, at Connaught Place and Greater Kailash took place in a quick succession, police said.

The first blast took place at Ghaffar market in which at least 20 people were injured. They were rushed to nearby RML hospital.

Delhi blasts: Indian Mujahideen claims responsibility

Indian Mujahideen on Saturday claimed responsibility of the serial Blasts that killed at least five people in the national capital.

In an e-mail sent to media houses, the outfit that had earlier also claimed the Jaipur and Ahmedabad blasts, said, ‘Indian Mujahideen strikes back once more.’

"Within 5 minutes from now. This time with the Message of Death, dreadfully terrorising you for your sins," the chilling note said.

Pakistan condemns Delhi serial blasts

Pakistan strongly condemned the serial Blasts in Delhi on Saturday, terming those responsible as "enemies of humanity".

In separate messages, President Asif Ali Zardari and Premier Yousuf Raza Gilani expressed shock and grief over the loss of precious human lives.

Gilani said the elements involved in such "heinous acts" are "enemies of humanity". Leading rights activist and former human rights minister Ansar Burney too condemned the terrorist attacks in the Indian capital.

Terror challenge to be met head on: Manmohan

Hours ahead of the serial Blasts in Delhi the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asserted on Saturday that the challenge posed by terrorism would be met head on but said that no one should be allowed to target any community in the fight against terror.

Addressing the Congress Working Committee meeting, the Prime Minister said the challenges posed by terrorism and communalism would be fought tooth and nail.

However, in the process of fighting terror, no one would be allowed to target any community, Congress media department head M Veerappa Moily quoted the Prime Minister as saying.

Delhi blasts: India on maximum alert

Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory Chandigarh were put on maximum alert in the wake of multiple explosions that rocked Delhi on Saturday evening.

Police sources said intensive checking of vehicles had been started in Gurgaon, Faridabad and other towns of Haryana bordering Delhi.

Security had been beefed up at key public places including inter-state bus terminuses, railway stations and other sensitive places in the two states and the UT, official sources said. Punjab was also on full alert and security had been tightened in the state.
